Famous host and singer Fakhr-e-Alam posted this sad news on micro-blogging website Twitter. “The GREAT EDHI sahib is unwell again and is admitted in ICU. Our prayers for the man who made one of the largest charity ambulance service,” he tweeted.
Earlier this year in June, the news of Edhi’s illness and admission at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) spread like a wild fire.
Not just in Pakistan, but this name is familiar across the globe. A simple, down to earth personality, Abdul Sattar Edhi is founder and head of the Edhi foundation; a non-profit social welfare organization in Pakistan which runs its own set of ambulance services across the nation. He prominently received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz from the Government of Pakistan in 1985 and was also voted as person of the year in 2013 by readers of the Express Tribune among many other accolades.
Earlier this month Abdul Sattar Edhi had declined to accept the donation of Rs10 million offered to him by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking care of Geeta, the girl who is now back to her home country after 12 years.
