QAYAAS literally translated as deliberation is not only the name of our band but the essence that encapsulates the entire philosophy behind our music. It is the coming together of individual deliberation on inspirational moments, relationships or life in general that take the form of musical notes. Our music and the words that frame them are essentially a spontaneous overflow of powerful emotion. But that is just the beginning of the journey. The idea taking birth in one band member’s mind is developed and brought to fruition by collective deliberation or “Qayaas” by the whole band. Creativity is like a breeze; fleeting, invisible and just as hard to catch. Five different people, their different moods, outlooks and music philosophies harmoniously blend to form compositions that reflect a coming-together of creative energy.

“Umeed”, a light melodious number about hope and the message of moving on in life rather than dwelling on past mistakes is one such song. Though the initial idea was conceived by lead guitarist Khurram Waqar a good half decade ago, it was only upon being lent soulful vocals and lyrics by Umair Jaswal and creative input by the other members that it came to be in its current form.

“Tanha”, a more intense number showcases the progressive and intense side of the band. Although written more than a decade ago as a guitar instrumental by Khurram, it started to take shape once the band started jamming on the idea. Written and arranged totally on the acoustic guitar initially, addition of heavy guitars and synchronized drum patterns locked in with a moving bass line took the song to another level. Lyrically, the song is the amalgamation of feelings, emotions and various thoughts of a common man, affected by the unpredictable situation in the country.

The debut album of Qayaas has been recorded at Root-Gate Studios, Islamabad. At present, album is in the post production phase at Root-Gate and S&M studios being carried out by Khurram Waqar and Sarmad Ghafoor.
