Pakistani King of Swing got married to his Australian fiancé Shaniera Thompson. Nikah ceremony took place in Lahore last week in a small family gathering due to illness of Wasim’s father. The function was kept highly private with only family members were present in the event.
Wasim Akram announced his engagement with Shaniera Thompson, a former public relations consultant, 2 months back. According to Australian media Wasim proposed Shaniera on bended knees. 47 years old Wasim Akram’s first wife Huma Wasim died in 2009. Wasim has two sons from his first marriage.
Wasim said that Shaniera will settle in Pakistan. Shaniera has reportedly converted to Islam.
“I feel lucky that I have got a second chance in life,” Wasim said few days back.
“She is close to my kids who are also excited and my in-laws (Huma’s parents) also endorsed the decision after meeting her,” said Wasim, who has two sons from his previous marriage.
“It will be a new life, a new beginning and I hope that we will settle down well with the best wishes of family and fans,” he said.
Shaniera came to Pakistan couple of days ahead of Eid to celebrate the occasion with Wasim and his family and to get adapted to the country’s traditions.
But now the news has came that they got married in a small private gathering most probably because Wasim father is not in a good health. Media was not invited on the event. A reception is presumed to take place in coming times where media, friends and relatives would be invited.
