Music for commercial settings has largely been neglected in the marketing sector of Pakistan, I can not recall listening to a good jingle in the longest of time. Until recently when I heard Jaaz/Mobilink’s new ad over the radio at first; it was just so hard to miss. There was something about the music, the instruments and the vocals of this ad.
Oh yes! And the lyrics, how can you forget them, ‘Dunya Ko Bata Do’… they echoed .. till I got home and looked up for it on google and came across the video on Xulfi’s page.
Oo, so it’s the guru (Xulfi) and his little musicians from the basement who did the jingle …. No wonder everything about the jingle was so catchy and so hard not to sing along. Nescafe Basement aired first in 2011, many back then many had doubts on not only about the fate of the TV program, but the musicians showcased in it too. Four seasons down the lane, the artists of each season have prospered and made their marks in their own unique yet very prominent style; and no one can be more proud at this moment then Xulfi is.
PMR did a quick catching up with everyone involved in making of this jingle, and that is not all, by the end of this article, you can also find a download link to this wonderful jingle, exclusively for PMR readers.
“While I did the keys, the lyrics are penned by Sami Khan” says Xulfi. “The idea is simple. There is an old adage that says “where there is a will, there is a way”. Honest passion and effort can pave our way for greater things. Most importantly if we work together, no change is impossible to make” he adds in.
The voice and the electric guitars you hear are Sherry Khattak’s; “I think it’s a great initiative and the fact that big brands like Mobilink are concerned about branding Pakistan is a great sign. And it’s about time that we project the positive side of our country rather than negative.” Says Sherry.
Bilawal Lahooti: “I did the drums and I’ve been working with Xulfi for more than 4 years so we have developed this musical understanding, we create all music just like we work on Nescafe Basement. Xulfi bhai and I have developed such a good relation, I knew exactly what he wanted for this jingle, Its always such a pleasure working with Xulfi Bhai”
Lead Violins have been played by Sharoon Leo with second Violins by Amal Nadeem and Fahd. The acoustic guitars are by Haroon Leo and the bass by Farhan Ali. All equally excited about the jingle, had a wonderful time working on it.
You can never forget the song “Main Yaad Aaon Ga’ out of your head, it one of those tunes, that you can hear yourself singing humming, even in the middle of the night when you are alone and cat go to sleep, or maybe just at work, when are trying to get things done. Well, that’s Sami Khan (Lagan);.
“I share a very strong musical bond with Xulfi, so whenever we work together we come up with the best possible combination of music, lyrics etc. DUNYA KO BATA DO is very special to me because it not only markets the brand but promotes country’s image very nicely.” Says Sami Khan.
