Bollywood deprived of Overload’s awesome music as Farhad Humayun says no to Bollywood
After Overload’s song ‘Dhol Bajay Ga’, featured in Mira Nair’s 2013 film ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ ,overtures by two Bollywood films wanting to use the funk/rock Neray Aah were declined by Overload frontman, Farhad Humayun.
The producer of one of the films- a Sanjay Dutt starrer ( given special permission by the courts after his latest incarceration) asked for Neray Aah to be sung by someone else; which Farhad declined for obvious reasons. The director of the second film titled, ‘Mai Hoon Rajnikanth’, asked to use the song without having to pay a fee to Overload.
Farhad explained why he refused both offers: “I mean no disrespect and I’m not against doing film songs of any kind. However, we are a rock band and not a jingle factory which hands out canned music. Any music by serious and mature artists, such as Overload, comes with a whole lot of hard work steeped in honesty, passion and integrity. If someone wants to use our music, we welcome the offer but they must respect us by letting us know that our music holds value. Trying to tempt us by saying they will make Overload famous hardly cuts any ice with us. Of course I can see how a Bollywood presence benefits popularity but the terms offered were not satisfactory”.
Farhad added that he and his band had great respect for the Indian film industry for the benchmarks it has set in music, technology and production ;and that he would welcome a chance to contribute to Indian and Pakistani cinema some time in the future. However, he asserted, Overload was a rock band and as such, would weigh its options with care.
