PMI: Are You The Next Pakistan Music Idol?
About The Competition
169 million Pakistanis, 100 days and one challenge! “Pakistan Music Idol (PMI)” takes the talent hunt and music appreciation concept to a whole new level. Standing rebellious against the conventional channels of TV and Radio, we’re going to make this the First Ever Online Music extravaganza for Pakistan and also invite International Talent with Pakistani Identity to be a part of this competition. Providing them with one platform and one voice, and tapping the niche with a storm!
Over the last 2 decades, a lot of Pakistani artists have adopted great many traits of western music, be it focusing on the vocals, the instruments or songwriting methods. This has given birth to a whole new generation that is much more familiar with, and influenced by the western music and musicians with diverse taste and influences. This is further modernized by the involvement of latest digital content delivery solutions of Internet and Mobile. Consequently, we have seen a boom in the music industry and a huge number of young budding rock stars and fusion artists have stepped into the light.
But due to lack of opportunity and appreciation, most of them don’t stand the test of time and give up on their dreams. PMI will provide a platform for this hugely under-appreciated and attention-starved community of musicians in Pakistan. We are creating this platform with an aim to appreciate and recognize the excellent work originated by any struggling underground singer or musician anywhere in Pakistan. Our mission is to support and promote Pakistan’s growing music industry and bringing forth their achievements, while inspiring others to raise their standards of excellence.
How To Enter
Pakistan Music Idol is open to anyone and everyone who is interested in participating, as long as you have the skill and talent to be a part of it. All you need is to make a video or audio recording of yourself performing, register on the web portal, and submit it in one of the given categories. It will go through the regular verification process and soon it will be published onto the website. It will be allotted a unique link so you can invite your friends and fans to vote for you and help you be a Pakistan Music Idol!
Every user coming in as an artist would be required to register on the web portal. The registration would be a two step process. First Aritist would need to fill in a form secondly An e-mail will be sent to the provided address for verification which will complete the registration verification process.User will also have to Agree to Terms & Conditions + Artist Agreement if they want to register.
Competition Structure:
The competition will be divided into 4 categories:
- Bands
- Eastern Instrument
- Western Instrument
- Vocals
And all these categories have no restriction whatsoever on genre of submissions. Pop, rock, metal, blues, jazz, everything goes!
In Round 1, there will be unlimited submissions from all artists and people will vote on them. Submissions & voting will go on for 30 days. In the end, top 12 most voted artists will be forwarded into Round 2, that is 3 artists from each category.
Then our panel of judges will introduce 5 more players from each category as Wild Cards, and people will vote on them for 10 more days. Out of those, top 2 for each category (total 8 more) will also be added into Round 2, making a total of 20 players qualifying for Round 2.
In Round 2, each artist will be allotted 4 songs and people will vote on these songs to choose which song should that artist perform in this round. This voting will go on for 15 days. At the end of this voting, the artists will be allotted the songs and they will have 15 days to submit their entries.
After 15 days, 8 top voted entries will be forwarded into Round 3 (2 from each category). Then people will vote on the remaining 12 artists, to pick one more Wild Card for each category. This voting will go on for another 5 days, and in the end 4 more artists will go into Round 3 (one for each category) making a total of 12 artists qualifying for Round 3.
In Round 3, these Final 12 artists will be given 30 days to submit an original composition of theirs. Production facilities will be provided at Mvergence Studios in Lahore and other partner studios in Islamabad and Karachi if required. At the end of 30 days, 5 more days will be given just for voting to make sure that the late submissions also get an equal chance of gathering votes for themselves.
Once this voting period is over, the top voted artist from each category will be declared as the Pakistan Music Idol for that category, giving us our four Pakistan Music Idols!
Winners’ Journey To Fame:
Each winning artist will be getting a complete media packaging. This includes:
- A Mega-concert in Dubai along with the judges on-stage, with live web-cast on PMI.
- A live DVD of the concert will also be released along with a live performance audio album.
- All the artists qualifying for Round 3 will be getting their tracks produced by top music producers in Pakistan and these tracks will be featured in a compilation album going to be released worldwide, with initial distribution of at least 50,000 copies in Pakistan.
- Each winning artist will be getting two Class A videos each (a total of 8 videos), one released every month til the next season.
